Cortical blindness is a rare but well-recognized complication of cardiovascular and cerebral angiographic procedures. It has an incidence of 0.3–1% following cerebral angiography (); a slightly higher incidence is reported with vertebral angiography (). Cortical blindness is the total or partial loss of vision in a normal-appearing eye caused by damage to the brain's occipital cortex. Cortical blindness can be acquired or congenital, and may also be transient in certain instances. This resulted in persistent cortical blindness (Anton’s syndrome). PRES has only rarely been reported in relation to SARS-CoV-2 infection and no patients have developed persistent cortical blindness.
